I mourn all over again
as the anniversary of your death nears
feel your presence everywhere
can you see my tears
your obituary says
died of natural causes
hanging in your garage
you got no applauses
you were a star
in your own right
and I often see you
in a film late in the night
I watch the home movies
every Christmas we spent togethr
do you remember New Year's eve
on the beach in the hot weather
when I received the call
from downunder so far away
nothing left to do
nothing left to say
didn't you know how much you were loved
when you sealed your fate
when you took that final step
your pain was so great
on December first I will light a candle
to celebrate your life not your end
you left us broken, one and all
my funny, dear and beloved, Irish friend
