The Greater Good of What?

door killea

Bless all the mothers and fathers
of children fighting in senseless wars
created by senseless leaders
for the greater good of what?

and for those who returned in
their flag covered coffins
with respect and honour we bow our heads
you died for the greater good of what?

where are the demonstrations
where are the students' outcries, the achievers
the gutless ones who talk the talk, political squawk
you let them die for the greater good of what?

oh glorious union of Europe
sunken so low, each member no voice of its own
send out our children to battle in places
for those behind the scenes, the eternal faceless

is there no-one out there to protest
what's happened to this society so obsessed
with petrol prices, up and down
your purse is all that can cause you to frown?

Shameful society, blind obedience, irrational fear
to all those families without their beloved
at this time of jolly Christmas cheer
deepest regret and sympathy for what you have to bear.

we all are victims of history, a beatiful song with a great message
it brings tears to my eyes, my father was a soldier (16) in 1940 after the second he went to fight the Japanese in Indonesie for 3 years, so after 8 years fighting against fascists and communist he finally came home, malaria and heavely traumatised, he made my sister and me but couldn't get used to a normal society, he died in stupid bike-accident right before my very eyes June..

he didn't have the time to explain his madness to me, so I started reading about the War until there was no more books left....
