Disporate ridiculo
The King's museum, the marble so grand
Rubens overwhelms with size alone
but it's the exposition of the little drawings
etchings of the dark side, give chills to the bone
Francisco Goya's witches, demons and fools
grotesque, scary, precognition abounds
each stroke of genius, inviting into the world of ghouls
James Ensor's masks and clowns freak me out
bizarre, misshapen, ugly and insane
a woman in the picture smiles at me, I quickly turn about
meet Odilon Redon his pleasure was the weird
threatening and sinister, influenced by words of Poe
mysterious symbolism, amoeba with a head adhered
three pioneers of modernism, each picture a story told
each different, yet so in tune, their pride would overflow
not for the faint-hearted to deeply immerse in depictions so bold
a hundred and fifty and some years later, I wonder did they know…
