Sungmanitutanka Sapa, The Watcher
High upon his hilltop perch
The Watcher stands
And braves the icy gusts
His pelt and heart alike
As black as night above
His gaze upon the pack below
Across the gaping chasm
How they huddle and they play
Under the pale moon's rays
He does not hear their playful tune
Nor grasp the meaning of their game
He is not of their world
Nor are they of his
He merely watches for a spell
And then as always,
With one last cry,
Carried off unheard
By ruthless winds
He turns and fades into
The freezing dark of night

Ik heb het wat moeilijk met de klanken van
'He is not of their world'
'Nor are they of his'.
Mooi beeld van een sjamaan lees ik.
Raul_Chigan: wel Christine alvast alweer bedankt voor deze nieuwe reactie. Wat ik daarmee bedoelde was dat deze antagonist, the watcher, zich afgesloten voelt met de scene die hij staat te overzien. Sungmanitutanka Sapa is overigens Lakota voor Zwarte Wolf. Het idee voor dit eigenlijk autobiografische werk komt uit mijn "all time favourite" film, Never Cry Wolf....een aanrader .. - killea

Het gedicht doet me denken aan een oude vriend die op zijn schouder had getatoëerd: lonely wolf, een beeld dat me bij blijft...
Raul_Chigan: dank je Liesje voor je reactie......je zit er heel goed mee dat was inderdaad wat ik erin wou leggen...voor het gaval je het niet weet...sungmanitutanka sapa is lakota voor zwarte wolf ....en het idee hiervoor komt uit de film Never Cry Wolf, mijn all time favourite zeg maar
