I never believed in magic
slight of handy words stunt
the unexplained enchanting
the unwritten an ambiguous punt

supernatural as clear as mud
banter is the rite of a poet

changed my mind about magic
like a 'good' woman should
when the lines are interchanged
like the story of Robin the hood

she in her prime high on his stud
his sword, every ready to show it

the magic of the ring
disappeared exactly a year
she rhymes it back to me
words of reason do not cohere

stopped watch, a useless dud
times again as if it had never quit

and I, changed my mind about magic
as any woman would, and should
incoherent phraseology be dammed
