There was so much given
and so much taken
yet still one thing is true
how often we were mistaken

too late to make amends
too far gone as the bough bends
in the direction of silence
so difficult to remain friends

single is a solitary word
it allows all without fault
and as you go as far as you can
it is just another assault

the doors that close
will remain forever shut
when you take to bed
every willing slut

pleasure galore is fine
it flies in and out like a dove
but never ever will one forget
the joys of an imperfect love

there are no words to describe
the memories of a strand of hair
but it will be found again and again
for longer and forever there
