Tinker, tailor...

door killea

Tinker, tailor…

When I was a school girl
we used to count buttons
to find out who we would marry
it was just a game played
now and then, to determine
the profession of Tom, Dick, or Harry
it went something like this
per buttons on our clothes:

'tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor,
rich man, poor man, beggar man,
doctor, lawyer, thief,
cook, hunter, chief'

now, I've had many it is true
some, of course amalgamated
into one person here and there
even loved and married a few
but now I have reached the last
and though the rhyme is brief
I have reached the point
of no return, in no-man's land
with you Chief…
