I would choose to be a Poppy
my most favourite flower
red, for the love and passion
for what was taken and loved by me
red for the blood of the soldiers, symbolic,
for those who died in the wars before and now
a poppy that grows wild alongside
the highways of this beautful land
and if picked it would die immediately
in a prison of the water-filled vase
unlsss you pull it out by the roots
and without roots in the ground
each petal that falls piercing my heart
a poppy that produces the scourge
of wars, and keeps people trapped
in the money generated by its juice
a poppy so pretty, as a beautiful girl
red, tall, straight, unperturbed
it grows amongst the weeds
in this, troubled world
